Seth Murphy, OD

Dr. Murphy is a native to Georgia growing up just south of Atlanta. He attended The University of Georgia on full scholarship, graduating with high honors in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in biology. He went on to attend Southern College of Optometry achieving awards for clinical skills over his course of study and graduated in 2003 with his Doctorate of Optometry with honors. He completed internships with Robins AFB in primary care optometry and Dorfzaun Eye Group in primary care and contact lens care.
Dr. Murphy is Board Certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry for the treatment and management of ocular disease and has practiced in the south metro Atlanta area or Macon for the duration his career. Most recently, Dr. Murphy practiced in a disease-focused, large medical center in Atlanta working directly with ophthalmology where he was awarded a Care Experience Champion honor.
His areas of clinical experience include adult and pediatric primary care optometry, contact lens management, medical eyecare emergencies, ocular disease management, high-risk medication monitoring, dry eye management, non-surgical glaucoma management, diabetic eye care, cataract evaluation and pre/post surgical care of cataracts. Dr. Murphy believes education is the key to most things, including eye care. Understanding the process of what is occurring to his patients’ eyes helps them understand why treatment may be needed and the different aspects of treatment: medical versus surgical versus monitoring. Patient care is an individual concern, and as such, specific treatment needs to be tailored to each patient.
In his free time, Dr. Murphy can be found outdoors. He loves hiking, camping and kayaking. He is an amateur woodworker, an avid reader and dabbler at the ukulele. His wife, Carrie is a fifth grade teacher and share three combined adult children. He and Carrie love time away at Jekyll Island. They attend Jonesboro First United Methodist Church.
